Press Releases / Andy Love MP applauds £4.8m for affordable homes in Enfield
Edmonton MP Andy Love has strongly welcomed a Government grant of £4,854,000 to build 34 much-needed affordable homes to rent across Enfield, announced by Housing Minister John Healey today.
Not only will the money boost the local levels of affordable housing stock, it will also provide valuable job and apprenticeship opportunities for the area as it is a requirement that developers and councils benefiting from the record levels of Government money offer local jobs and apprenticeships.
Since June, and despite the recession, the Government has approved over £3.3 billion funding for nearly 6,000 new homes nationwide. As well as going to housing associations, this cash has been used to help developers to kick start their stalled projects and get house building back on track, and to fund the largest council house building programme for two decades.
Welcoming the targeted local investment, Andy said…
“There is a definite need for more affordable housing in our area so today’s announcement of £4.8 million by the Government specifically for the purpose of building affordable homes to rent locally is great news for the whole of Enfield, including Edmonton.
“Unlike governments in previous recessions, I am pleased to see that the Government is using the power of public investment to ensure that even during the downturn we are continuing to build the homes that people need, while supporting the next generation of construction workers by creating thousands of new apprenticeships.”
