Press Releases / Andy Love MP adds support to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month
Andy discusses Edmonton statistics with Prostate Nurse Specialist and Trustee of Prostate UK, Kate Holmes.
Edmonton MP Andy Love has added his support to Prostate UK’s “Prostate Cancer Awareness Month” after learning about the prevalence of prostate disease in Enfield and what men can do to be aware of their own prostate health.
Around 12,800 men across Enfield are likely to suffer from benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is an enlargement of the prostate – the gland located beneath the bladder – and which can result in a weaker urinary system and difficulty emptying the bladder. While BPH is not cancerous, it can ruin lives. It pays to be aware as early detection of prostate disease vastly improves the chances of successful treatment.
More information on all prostate diseases, including BPH and prostate cancer, can be found at www.prostateuk.org.
Supporting Prostate UK’s campaign, Andy said…
“I hadn’t realised just how high the percentage of people suffering from prostate disease was. There are many treatment options out there so I’m urging men to be aware and seek medical advice from their GP for unexplained urinary symptoms, rather than assuming they’re a normal part of ageing. Don’t suffer in silence.”
